A different day.

I joined Nick Nairn at his cookery school for lunch today. Lots of adults who care about school dinners were there and they all cooked a school lunch and photographed it. I chose the one I liked best. Everyone was really friendly and I enjoyed speaking to them. Nick showed me how to make lunch and it was quick and really tasty and cost the same as my lunches. I ate it all.

Unluckily our car broke down today and my arm is sore and we are late home so I will post more tomorrow. Today has been a new and great experience.

  1. Yay. Take care of yourself! What a great day - and how nice for Nick Nairn to be featured in a famous food blog! :D

Look forward to Never Seconds continuing - I think this is a really important blog, and I love all the pics of all the different school lunches from around the world.

  2. Hi Martha, It was great to meet you today. I'll send you some photos of everyone's lunch - including the one you cooked. What a great photo! A chef in the making maybe?
Thanks for coming with your dad.
All the best (and I hope your arm and your car are fixed soon).

  8. What a great picture! And it's great to finally see the face behind the amazing NeverSeconds blog :)

I work in the Marketing Department for a foodservice company in Ohio, USA. First thing every morning, I come in the office and check out your blog. I'm always eager to see what you had for lunch and what interesting tidbit you've chosen to share with the world :) I'm sorry to hear about your arm, and the car, but I'm glad your spirits are still high and that you have continued with your blog throughout it all. Keep up the amazing work. I see a Food Journalist or a Chef in the making!!

  9. Yay! A pic of you, and cooking too! Love it. I read your blog everyday and admire the changes you are bringing about in your school. My boys bring their own lunches since their school doesn't have a cafeteria. I enjoy creating delicious, healthy lunches for them.

  19. I decided to post this here since the relevant post has over 1000 comments and I figured there might be more of a chance that you would see it here. Anyway, don't let anyone shut you up. You are an intelligent, sweet, caring, and wonderful girl. I know you will do amazing things in your life. I am 25 years old and you have managed to inspire me. You've already changed the world more than me or anyone else my age that I know. Good luck.

  24. You said you like Mexican food. Here's my favorite Mexican food recipe. In a pinch you can substitute red tomatoes for the tomatillos, but the tomatillos are more savory.

p.s. rotten of them to censor your blog. if they start sneakin' back to the garbage they were serving you before they got caught, ask your dad for an inexpensive cell phone with a camera.

  27. So glad you got to see what they can do, cheaply, with food when they know what they're doing. :) I hope you stay on top of this issue, and continue to find other ways to keep them feeding kids the way they should so that you can grow up healthy, smart and happy! What a great lesson, Veg. You can change the world, starting with your own. Great job!! <3
